Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a custom web application? Why not just use an existing SaaS tool?
It depends. Existing SaaS tools are great at solving very generic problems that apply to most companies. This is good when your business is small. But as you begin to grow, the experience of integrating more and more SaaS tools can become cumbersome. Or there may not be an existing tool that solves your specific problem. A custom Web application can solve the exact problems that your business has. Consider the difference between a suit off the rack and a bespoke suit made exactly for your body; off the rack is cheaper to get started, but it won't fit exactly like something made just for you.
How does pricing and payment work?
For our AI MVPs (Minimum Viable Products), our rate is $1000 per application, paid upfront. This assumes that this is truly a minimum viable product with only a few, well-implemented features that we can feasibly complete in one week. For larger applications, we will provide a quote with milestone-based pricing. Payments are upfront, at the start of each milestone.
Which tech stack (frontend, backend, infra) do you use and why did you choose it?
We use Ruby on Rails, a batteries-included web framework that handles many common needs of web applications. It has been around for 20 years and is trusted by some of the largest companies in the world, such as Shopify, Github, and Airbnb. We use the default Rails frontend, Hotwire, to provide Javascript interactivity. Our goal is simplicity; we don't use complex SPA frameworks unless we absolutely need them. Simplicity prevents bugs and saves on development time. We use Kamal to deploy our apps directly to virtual private servers such as Digital Ocean and Hetzner, cutting out expensive middlemen like Heroku.
Do you make iOS and Android apps as well?
Yes! Our frontend, Hotwire, comes with an excellent framework for building hybrid mobile apps. A hybrid mobile app allows for reusing screens built originally for the web, while allowing for high-fidelity screens to be built using native code. We strongly believe that hybrid is the best approach for building cross platform applications. They essentially allow us to write code once and run it anywhere, rather than writing an iOS version, an Android version, and a Web version. This saves development time and cuts down on bugs.
How do you handle security, compliance (e.g., GDPR/CCPA/HIPAA), and data privacy?
Our web framework of choice, Ruby on Rails, has built-in protection against common attacks such as Cross-Site Request Forgery, SQL injections, Session Hijacking and more. If data privacy is paramount, we can deploy our apps and LLMs to your servers so data never leaves your premises. Our server providers at Digital Ocean and Hetzner can run GDPR- and HIPAA-compliant workloads as well.
